The Education & Learning Department's mission is twofold. The first goal is getting the next generation of Hams on the air through our meaningful work with educators around the country. Our second goal is to then serve Hams of all experience levels, from those studying to earn their Tech license to long-time Extras looking for the next big thing in Ham Radio. Our staff works towards those goal through the efforts of our departments two branches; the Education & Technology Program and our Lifelong Learning initiative.

We are the stewards of the Education & Technology Program. This donor funded program is designed to provide teachers across the country with resources, training, and enthusiasm for Amateur Radio instruction. It is through the efforts of these teachers that the next generation of Hams gets on the air! Some of the offerings that come out of this department include our Teachers Institute program which provides professional development courses to teachers of all experience levels and expertise. Another is our ETP Grant program, through which we are able to facilitate the purchase of radio equipment & accessories to eligible schools.

Our lifelong learning branch serves to facilitate amateur radio learning across all levels of the hobby. We are dedicated to developing learning material that is accessible, intuitive, and substantial. The world of Ham Radio is ever expanding, and we are making sure that all hams have access to material that furthers their enjoyment of the hobby. One key piece of this branch is our Learning Center. Learn.arrl.org stands out as a premier location for furthering ones relationship with amateur radio. With classes open to both members and non-members, it can accommodate entry level hams as well as experienced pros. Beyond just licensure course material, the learning center has a plethora of courses on the many exciting corners of the hobby. Check out our programs on Parks on the Air (POTA) and Summit on the Air (SOTA) to see where Ham Radio meets a love of the natural world.
